“Mathew” has made incredible strides in building confidence and advocating for himself. After more than a year in ABA services, he recently transitioned to group sessions with a peer to strengthen social connections and practice group participation skills. Mathew has always valued friendships and being included, often going along with what others are doing, even when he may not fully agree. Over the past month, his treatment plan has focused on helping him recognize situations where he can express his own preferences and set boundaries.

In recent sessions, Mathew has shown amazing growth by independently telling his peer “no” or “stop” when he does not want to participate in an activity. Even more impressive, he did this without prompting from an adult. This moment highlighted not only his growing self-advocacy skills but also his developing understanding of social situations and choices. His peer responded positively to his communication, making the interaction a learning moment for both of them. Mathew’s increased confidence and willingness to speak up for himself is a huge step forward, and his team is incredibly proud of the progress he’s making.

“Cameron” recently demonstrated a powerful moment of growth in emotional regulation during a session. At one point, he began feeling frustrated while working through some of his data tasks and started to become agitated. Instead of letting the frustration take over, Cameron paused and used a strategy he has been practicing—taking deep breaths to help calm his body. With a little time and support, he was able to regulate his emotions and return to the activity, finishing the rest of his session successfully.

Moments like this show how much Cameron is learning about managing big feelings and using tools that help him reset and continue learning. His ability to recognize when he needed a break and use a calming strategy is a huge accomplishment.

“Harry” has been making wonderful progress in his communication skills both at the clinic and at home. Over the past several months, his team has seen steady growth in his use of echoics and word approximations as he practices repeating sounds and words during learning opportunities. What’s been especially exciting is how these skills are beginning to carry over into multiple environments. Harry is becoming more engaged during sessions, attempting new sounds more frequently, and building the foundation for stronger expressive language. His hard work and persistence are paying off, and his team is excited to continue supporting his communication journey as he gains confidence using his voice.
